Kate and Sessions

Handwritten Original: Page 1

Today I would like to highlight an editor feature of the Kate editor that I do not think receives enough attention. Most editors do not remember the documents you had previously opened. In many cases this makes sense, and I was not immediately sold on sessions as much of a benefit. Then I started to use Kate's implementation of sessions and slowly, I found myself using them more and more.

In Kate, you are prompted when you first start it to select a previous session you have saved, or to create a new session. Since it is so easy to save sessions in Kate, it's surprising the places I have found to use it. When combined with its built-in terminal session, I find it easier to start an editing session by launching Kate, as opposed to starting with a command-line or a file manager. If you use Kate or your editor supports sessions, give them a try!
